    Local business, sports leader collapses at golf club, dies

    BRISTOL — A local businessman who was one of the original coaches of the Bristol Soccer Club died suddenly after being rushed to the hospital from Pequabuck Golf Club Wednesday.

    John Tavera, 48, of Bristol, was playing in a golf league at the time.

    According to his obituary, he was an avid sports fan who enjoyed golf and was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Yankees.

    He graduated from St. Anthony Grammar School and St. Paul Catholic High School.

    While at St. Paul, he was captain of the soccer team and was named an All-State soccer player.

    He leaves behind several relatives including his wife, Lee Santorso, his daughter, Taylor Tavera and his parents, Anthony and Frances Tavera, of Bristol.
