  • Hawaii here we come!

    Hi,

We haven't posted for quite a while. We did however manage to make it to the conference and were so glad that we did.

Richard, Mickel and I are off to Hawaii. We'll start in Boston, connect in San Francisco, then on to Maui. On the way back it's Oahu, San Francisco. I am looking for contacts of fellow HCMers and/or the location of any medical facilities along the way. If anyone can advise, we'd appreciate it. Also, if you have any travel tips for Richard....that would be great.

    Thanks....Aloha!

I enjoyed meeting you too! Your boys are really great guys and I had a good time talking with them.

As far as traveling, make sure Richard is well hydrated. The change in altitude and pressurization can be uncomfortable and cause some problems. Also have him get up and walk around a bit every couple of hours. I don't know much about medical facilities, though. Oh, and make sure you bring a several-day supply of his meds on board in case your checked bagage gets lost.

Make sure to have a shaved ice when in Hawaii on Oahu . This place was the best we found:

          Waiola Shave Ice

          Two Locations
          Location #1
          Address: 2135 Waiola Ave, Honolulu
          Phone: 808-949-2269
          Rating: Extra Large

          Location #2
          Address: Kapahulu Blvd, Honolulu
          Phone:
          Rating: Extra Large

Review: This is probably the best shave ice place on the planet. The shave ice is so fine that the syrup almost immediately melts it so you have to eat it fast. Waiola's also has the most flavors and the most toppings of any shave ice place. Also look for their unique special creations including the azuki bowl and shave ice with Hersey syrup and evaporated milk. The Li Hing Mui and Lychee flavors are especially good. The original location on Waiola is the sentimental favorite, but the brand new location on Kapahulu across from the golf course is much easier to find. Either way, you can't go wrong.

The best pizza is at The Big Kahuna in or near Honolulu. You have to have the kalua pig pizza.
