  • When did you start golfing again?

    Hi:

I had my myectomy May 16, 2007 and the recovery period is going great but I'm going crazy not golfing. I know that the chest has to continue to heal but I was wondering when is it safe to start swinging the driver again. Any golfers out there to share their experiences would be great.

    Take care..

My husband had his myectomy in June (probably by the same dr as you). There will be no golf season this year. Its been hard because our sons love golf and they go off and play together and leave Dad at the cottage with me. No swimming either..although he has been walking around in our lake to cool off. You can make up for it next year....

      Goldie,

How is your husband doing since the surgery. I'm surprised how quick my symptoms have gone since the surgery. I just wished I didn't need the medications. I will attending the peterborough Rehab clinic next week to get evaluated on how much I can do.

        Hi Norman

My husband is doing great. He has now given up his "afternoon naps". He's walking daily (and our dog loves it). Still can't use his arms much or lift anything heavy. Occasionally he has some discomfort if he "over does it" one day. He's still taking his atenolol. He does back to the clinic in September for his post surgery check up.

Maybe you'll get some "fall golfing in".....

            Hey

I try for a bogey every hole. Sometimes I am a little better sometimes I am a little worse. I am thinking I waited until about the 8th month. I then went to a driving range and took it very slowly to see if I had any pain or any voice in my head saying "Not a good idea" I had no pain and no voices. We all heal at our own pace, so do not overdue.

              Hi Norman:

No my husband isn't golfing yet....just watching it on tv. Our children are trying to get him to join them on Sunday for their annual Thanksgiving golf game at the cottage, but he's not committing yet.

He has recovered extremely well...but he said he needs to work on strengthening his upper body again. He feels it if he over does it.

              Did you golf this summer?

                Hi,
My first surgery(myectomy) was in Dec '96 so that didn't interfere with golf season....I just had a valve replaced this past June(20th) and recovery was fairly quick(at least I thought so)....By early Aug my Dr said I could at least chip and putt, since he didn't want me to be making full swings and shoulder turns. But by the end of August, I was able to play...Not that I take BIG shoulder swings, etc!!!!! I guess if varies from person to person.....If you can't get anything in before fall, you MIGHT just have to schedule a "theraputic" trip to Florida or Arizona for a few rounds!!!!! Just tell your boss/spouse/etc it's for THERAPY!!
