  • Palpitations while eating

I have noticed that when I eat a meal often I will experience palpitations or my heart will race for a few beats. I have to stop eating and sit back and relax for a minute and then I'm fine. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like that?

    Re: Palpitations while eating

aaron, 99% of the time I get my A-Fib or PVC after eating a meal.
most times they go away after a couple hours, but sometimes they hang around for a couple days.
Every great thing that has ever happened since the beginning of time has started as a single thought in someones mind.
So if you are capable of thought then you are capable of great things
    Good luck and stay well.

      Re: Palpitations while eating

You aren't alone, a great many people have the same symptoms. The best solution that's been found so far is to eat slowly and to eat several small meals that aren't too high in carbohydrates instead of large meals. I hope this helps you.

I also have this when I eat, after a while you get use to it , just try to not let it bother you but if your doctor doesn't know you need to tell him about this so he can put it in your record

          Aaron,
Everytime Tommy eats a moderate to large meal, he has the same type of problems which usually last for a couple of hours. Also if he eats foods real high in carbs or fats. As suggested try to eat smaller meals or at a smaller pace.

            Re: Palpitations while eating

Thanks for all of the responses. It's interesting that eating causes these palpitations. I wonder why. It's like I start getting this sick tight feeling in my diaphragm area and my heart starts beating like crazy. I have an appointment with my cardio at 10am today so I'll talk to him about it then. Thanks again everyone.

              Re: Palpitations while eating

The experts believe the reason you get more palpitations when you eat is because your blood supply is diverted to the digestive system and your heart doesn't like that very much.

                Re: Palpitations while eating

I was looking through some posts and found this one:

                http://www.4hcm.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9744

It's along the same lines as this thread, so I thought I'd put it up here.

It's good to know that others have experienced similar things.
