  • Who says we cant have babies!!!

Some of you may remember me freaking out a year and a half ago because an ignorant cardiologist said people with HCM cant have babies. Thanks to Lisa, and some others here and a great specialist at Duke I knew that it was okay for me. Well all I have to say is........ I am a mommy again
In August I had a healthy beautiful, 8lb 4 oz baby boy named Hunter!! Pregancy and delivery were both wonderful!!

          Congratulations!!

I had my first myectomy about 7 months after the birth of my daughter. We wanted more children, so I asked my cardiologist and his answer for 8 years was "In time".

We got tired of waiting and I became pregnant with my son. They wanted to do an abortion, but we said, "God wanted us to have another child, so I will not have an abortion".

My cardiologist told me that since I would not abort this child, I had to have a C-section.

Our son was born December 3, 1978. His due date was December 25, 2005. Michael (our son) was surely a gift from God.

Women with HCM certainly can have children. There are many of us here that have and live to tell.

          Take care
          Esther

I have a 4 year old son. I knew I had HCM when I conceived him. I decided to have children purposefully. I was followed by my cardiologist and my high risk OB during the pregnancy. I delivered vaginally with no real complications. My son is the light of my life. I wouldn't do it any differently now (well, maybe I would not have had that epidural, but that is another story). I pray that he does not carry the gene, but if he does, I will know how to deal with it. Congratulations on your new son. I hope that you have time to get a little sleep now as busy as you must be!

                    Congratulations!!

I had two babies knowing I had HCM and did great both times. Pregnancy is actually often well tolerated with HCM as our blood volumes increase which is beneficial. Natural childbirth is recommended as epidurals are contraindicated with HCM. I wanted to go natural anyway and they both were wonderful, exhilirating experiences.

p.s. I am glad I had them before my myectomy, however!!
