  • Is it just me who's so limited physically?

Hello, I'm new to this site and I've been reading some of your posts. I must say I am very excited about being a part of the HCMA Community. I was diagnosed with HCM about four years ago when I was 20 years old. I'm wondering if I'm the only one who's so physically limiited. I feel fine most of the day but I can't run at all. I can swim but not much before getting winded. Walking on the treadmill is usually okay on most days but I would love to be able to do more. I don't want to gain weight. I take Zebeta and I love my doctor. I also take Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and Nexium. Oh yeah and I'm diabetic.

nope. not just you. almost all of us really. some push more than others, of course, but you just can't do as much when your equipment is faulty.

take it easy, do what you can, yoga, walk, golf, etc. eat healthier and you won't have to work out so hard.

    and welcome!!!

      WELCOME!
Many people feel the same way, so do not think you are alone.

Have you been evaluated by an HCM center yet?

Unfortunately I too feel the same things you feel. Just today I was conversing with some friends about basketball and thinking "I cannot fathom running without experiencing that full feeling in my heart, chest pain and SOB." Other than that I generally feel OK, but gaining weight is a drag. I try to walk on a regular basis. I have discovered if I stay from high carb meals I feel better. Good luck on this journey.

        Peace,

Hi Lisa and all, Thank you for replying. It feels so good to finally communicate with people who have HCM. I have never talked to anyone who has it until now. In response to Lisa's question, My doctor is an HCM specialist but I have not been evaluated at the Mayo clinic or any other place like it. I'm thinking of it though. As long as I don't have to do another Angiogram. lol.
