  • You Won't Believe It!!!!!

i was told at my diagnosis that my wall thickness was 2.8...right??

well they were planning for surgery and my parents wanted me to get another echo thinking MAYBE something might just change even though every doc said there was no way.

    1.6 baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats right. my echo tuesday came back as 1.6. the docs are in disbelief so they are re-measuring the same images on monday.

whoever said prayers dont do anything...i'll give them a talking to! thats what happens when you have people across the country prayin for ya!!!

Be careful .... These numbers are VERY far apart and therefore I must really be concerned about who is doing the echo and who is reading the echo.

I do want to be happy for you... however I also think a second look is in order - and it is important that it is done by someone who understand HCM very well.

    Good luck -
    Lisa

      Dear Janelle,
Sounds like one or the other of those echoes was read rather carelessly and decisions were made based on just a cursory view. - - Man, how I hate that! It really rattles what little faith I had in those clods to begin with. Seems like the only thing they can do with any degree of consistency is charge an arm and a leg for their haphazard services – and I do mean hap-“hazard”.

Rather then go with what they say after rereading the second echo (hopefully this time a bit more carefully,) I would demand a third echo at no charge, to see which one of the two were really the case. If you really need the surgery it would be best to get it, but if you don’t, you’re much better off without it. The way they work it wouldn’t surprise me if one of the echoes was of somebody else.

Maybe I’m just getting to be a grumpy old man, but it’s like a three foot flame to me – it just burns my a-s. I wish you the very best of luck, and I hope it proves to be the latter case, but you really have to know where you stand.

        Dear Janelle,

I don't believe in prayer exactly, but I do believe in the One who answers prayer! I will pray that the next result will be even lower.

          Hi Janelle,
I have heard that some echocardiogram technicians & doctors use a different method/angle of measuring the septal wall. It may be important for each doctor that is looking at your echo to take the measurements from several spots along the septum wall. Find out if they have measured on the same spot as the septum can be bumpy & measure different at the top, bottom & middle. If your measurements have truly gotten smaller, maybe you & your parents should talk to your doctors & Dr. Barry Maron (I think you had visited with him a few months ago) about exercise induced HCM.

I will keep you in my prayers today. Hope everything works out for you and your treatment plans.
          Blessings,
          Sharon
