  • For Lori

June 12, 1995 6:00am - The call...Lori was not breathing get to the hospital.
June 13, 14, 15, she stay in a coma and made no improvements...

June 16, 1995 - My sister died - 4:36pm her cardiologist kissed her forehead and cried and said goodbye.

June 19, 1995 she was laid to rest.

Keep Lori in your thoughts this week. Every year I re-live the events of this week and can recall the details of everyday with such detail it is amazing. Each year I feel the same loss, anger and frustration. Lori did not have to die. I find such comfort in knowing that so many of you have had your lives improved or saved because of Lori.

On June 16, 1995 I lost my sister...today June 12, 2003 - I look to see how my family has grown - and you are all a part of my extended family and I thank God for each of you.

    Peace to you all,
    Lisa

    Re: For Lori

Lori knows she has changed your life as well as the many people that follow this board.
There is always purpose in life and death, unfortunately we are left to grieve the people whose greatest purpose was to leave this Earth.
    Thank You Lori.
Every great thing that has ever happened since the beginning of time has started as a single thought in someones mind.
So if you are capable of thought then you are capable of great things
    Good luck and stay well.

      Re: For Lori

Because of your undying efforts Lisa we have all made accomplishments. And because of you on this date June 12, 2003 I get to celebrate my 23rd birthday. You have personally made sure that Lori's passing was not in vain and through you she still lives to this day touching lives.

June 16th is a sad day for me. It is my father's birthday. Although, I did not lose him to death I lost him to his intense hatred. Each year it brings back vivid memories of my past. Things I would like to forget but are forever etched into my heart and soul. So each year on this day I sit and ponder why this man could not love me. Everyone said that with time the pain would go away but it doesn't I still feel it. The only difference is that I have the support of a new family who cares about me for who I am and gives me the strength to carry on.

      For this I thank God.

Thank you Lisa and Lori for giving me the second opportunity at life!

      Mary S.

Thank God for people like Lisa who turn tragedy into triumph!! I have no doubt that Lori would be proud of your admirable achievements. We should all be so lucky to have a sister like Lisa.

As a side note. I read the board every day. It is my solace and connection to my disease. The stories are informative and moving, the friendships invaluable. I wanted to be at this year's meeting in NJ. Unfortunately, my husband was on a 2 week journey in San Diego, and I had to watch my three children. I would have loved to be part of the meeting....to meet evryone and to give Lisa a big hug!

Thank You from the Bottom of my Heart!

          Re: For Lori

          You are very sweet.

June 16 is just a few hours away, my most dreaded day of the year. You see it is not only the day Lori died... 5 years earlier to the day June 16, 1990 is the day I had my stroke.

I look at each June 16th as an accomplishment of sorts...one more year I won and HCM lost! At the same time it is also the one day of the year I allow myself to be a little angry for what this disease has taken from me ... for what I have lost from my life my grandfather, Aunt, Uncle and yes my sister....but it also took part of my youth, my health, and has left me with a life of meds and devices. On June 17th I will be grateful for the Meds and Devices and for each day I have to share with you all...BUT for one day a year I do allow myself a little "Pitty Party"...my dear fried Carolyn and I use to have these little "parties" over the phone...they lasted 10-15 minutes and then it was over and onto the work at hand!

For those of you who thought "Lisa always has a good attitude" well sorry to burst the bubble..but I too am human and June 16th is my day.

          Thanks to all!
          Lisa
