  • Daughter with symptoms

Hi everyone. It has been a while since I posted regularly. I had to have my gall bladder removed and then the next week I was out of town.

Anyway, for the last month my 8 year old daughter has been complaining of feeling dizzy and at times she says her legs are very tired. We do not know for sure what is going on, but our family Dr., knowing I have HCM, has set us up for an echo with a pediatric cardiologist from Hershey Medical Center. It is scary to be sure, but we have to keep moving forward to see what is going on.

Has anyone else had small children with similar symptoms? I know the symptoms can be all over the map, but I thought I would ask anyway.

We go in on Thursday and I will keep you posted. Please keep us in your prayers.

    Peace,
    Leon

Leon, I don't know anything about the symptoms, but wanted to tell you that I'll be praying for your daughter and your whole family about this. How do you feel now that you've had your gall bladder out? I hope you're mending well.

      Re: Daughter with symptoms

      Dear Leon,

There are a lot of kids with HCM and there are a lot parents on the board.

The symptoms of HCM are pretty much the same in kids as they are in adults--shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness, chest pain, tachycardia, etc. It is harder since kids may not know how to tell you what they feel or that what they feel isn't normal.

I recommend posting a query in the general or family/parents sections to get a higher response rate then you might get here in the GodSquad section.

      keep us posted,

      S

Leon - I know all too well what you are dealing with. My daughter is not diagnosed but has had "symptoms" that may well be nothing abnormal - but all the same knowning that HCM is with us makes me look at it much more seriously than other parents would.
You are not over reacting - have everything checked out and know that we are here if you need us!

          Re: Daughter with symptoms

My kids never complained about those particular symptoms. I do know that my kids will complain about leg aches sometimes, but that was NOT HCM related, it was growing pains. Mostly my kids will complain if they feel chest pain or a fast heart rate but never any dizziness. The dizziness might be from dehydration.

I hope when you have her checked out, she is cleared of HCM.

Yes, I should have mentioned the leg pains. Not HCM.

I had the most horrible leg pains sometimes when I was between 8 and 11. I would wake in the middle of the night just aching. Just growing, though.
