With the obvious disclaimer that all of us with HCM have varying considerations, my cardiologist has always encouraged me to continue the exercise regimen I was on prior to being diagnosed. I "crush it" in the gym for 3 hours daily and just entered (and won) my first bodybuilding competition at age 50.

That's great, man! I recently got my diagnosis and thought that my workouts will have to finish, but you gave me hope!

There is a lot of new research on HCM and excercise.... Every HCM case is a bit different and it is important to work with an HCM specialist to determine what is best for you. Just because someone else on the internet with HCM is doing body building ...... doesn't mean it is right for you.

I think Jill hit the nail on the head. Research shows that most of us can (and should) exercise. HCM specialists will not, in general, recommend body building, though. Please consult your HCM specialist (not just your local cardiologist) about any exercise regimen.
