  • Ragbrai 2014, cycling across Iowa.

    Hello

I rode most of the way across Iowa this year. I ended up with about 320 miles in 5 days. The weather was great again this year, the pie and ice cream were great again this year. I am really looking forward to this again next year. We riders think it is some kind of mental issues. I mean really? Ride a bicycle across Iowa? Eat pie and ice cream at 8 am

I ride at a pace somewhere between 10 to 12 mph and am able to hold a conversation without being breathless. I am very well hydrated and take frequent breaks. I get where I need to go and if the hill is to steep I jump off the bike and walk it. My cardiologist is good with this.

Sadly we had two people die this year. One from an apparent heart attack (the rider knew he had a heart problem age 62) and the other one apparently died in his sleep.(age 72)

    Scott
Every day is a present I was diagnosed when I was 38, I have asthma which made me assume it was ashtma, getting old, and being about 30 lbs over what I should be. I have days when I would rather not know. Myectomy club 3Jan06 CCF, my life is so much better!!!!

Sounds like a great time - Too bad for the ones that didn't make it, but they passed doing something they loved.
Nothing beats pie - no matter what time of the day!
    Marc
    Diagnosed @ 48
Saw Dr. Michael Debakey @ age 5 - "He's fine, just a little noisy"
Father to 3 boys 22, 25, 29 (all currently clear - pending genetics)
AICD - Valentines Day '08, Spark Plug replaced 11/14
After much research, I had a Myectomy @ Mayo for my 50th Birthday '08
    Quietly going insane . . .
