    [Chromosome Test]

    Author: Charlie Heater (---.bgk.bellsouth.net)

I have HCM. Posted first message on the board yesterday. Our daughter is 27 and pregnant. She began to have chest pains. She has been sent to a cardiologist. She has met with him and will have an echo next monday. He asked her if I had ever had a chromosome test. He said this would tell if my HCM was the kind that was genetic. I had not heard of this possibility. Is it possible? And what does it consist of? What is the difference in the two kinds of HCM?

    Would appreciate any info. Thanks

    Charlie,

There are genetic tests that can be done to search for the gene your family carries. these tests are nor commercially available at this time...however if you are interested in testing we can help you get in touch with a lab that will be more than happy to run the test for you in a research program that is currently underway...unfortunately there is a catch...only some of the genes that cause HCm have been id'ed...therefore you may wait months or years for a responce...and in some cases there may never be a reply...

If you want us to forward your information to the lab send an email to the HCMA stating your name, address and contact #'s with the statement please send this to the genetics lab so that they may contact me about testing.

Best wishes...and congratulations on the baby!

    Lisa
