    [GREAT news!!]

Not only do I have good news to add, but GREAT news!

My 2 year old nephew had his appoinment today to check for HCM. (A murmur was heard at his last ped. appoinment) He is clear! This is such wonderful news for our family, since my son has HCM and my brother's son passed away at 7 from HCM. We were so concerned about my sisters little guy!

    What a huge relief!

    Lisa,

She was told to take him back again at the age of 10. (in 8 years) for another check and to bring in her 3 month old when he is 2 years for a screening. I personaly thought 8 years sounds a bit too long, since both my son and my brother's son were diagnosed at age 5. But then again I am not a professional in HCM! LOL!

    Dear Dolly,

The HCMA and our medical advisors generally recommend 1-2 years for echos in anyone under 20 at risk and 2-3ish perhaps in the 20s and every 5 years from 30 on.

    But enjoy the good news!

    Dear Dolly,

It is realy great news. God bless your nephew!

Would you like to tell me why your babies may have HCM. I am 28 years old and want to have a baby, however, I may have HCM. My doctor told me my septum is a little thick, about13mm. I don't know if I can have a healthy baby.

Best wish to your family! Enjoy the good news and enjoy the life!

    Mancj,

The reason my nieces and nephews are screened for HCM is becuase it runs in our family. My son has HCM, had a myectomy at the age of 6 and an ICD implant at the age of 9. My brother's son also had HCM and passed away while running laps in gym class at the age of 7. All of my neices and nephews are now screened for HCM.
