I often see you reffering to the best HCM hospitals as the Big 5. Who, Where and Why?

    Dear Sara,

"Big 5" is my little pet name for the major US centers that have the best HCM specialists and who do the most surgeries and procedures with the best success rates.

    The Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN

    Minneapolis Heart Center, Minneapolis, MN

    The Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH

Tufts-New England Medical Center, Boston, MA

St. Lukes Medical Center, NY, NY

When someone needs to see a specialist, we ask them to call the office and talk to Lisa so she can suggest the doctors/centers who will work best for you and your particular needs --whether they are medical, personal, or travel or all three.

There are other centers but they are the biggest in the USA at this point.

Would these clinics/hospitals also apply to Pediatrics? If not, which centers/clinics/hospitals are best for Pediatrics?

We live is Wisconsin. We have an excellent doctor, but he may retire in a few years. I want to find someone in line when that happens.

    Thanks.

Michelle - Mom to Krista (11) and Tyler (8) both HCM

Krista surgeries: 3/97 septal myectomy, 2/99 mitral valve replacement

    Tyler surgery: 1/98 septal myectomy

    Dear Michelle,

Please call the office at 973-983-7429 for a peds referral. I don't have kids (and never will ---I'm on coumadin) so the peds doctors fly under my radar! I know that Mayo has some and MHC has some (I think) but please call Lisa for help on this one.

    Sarah
