    [medication adjustments post myectomy]

    Hello everyone,

I realize this subject is very broad as each of us have a different history and experience. However, with that said I was wondering what some of your experiences have been.

In my situation I was on a very low dose of Atenolol, 25mg every 12 hours, before surgery. Post op I was put on lopressor then switched to Atenolol just before discharge. The dose of Atenolol is 50 mg every 12 hours. My local cardiologist will be seeing me for follow up care. I had hoped I would not need as much medicine and maybe eventually I can be cut back depending on how I do. I don't like the side effects I think the extra dosage is causing.

I am just a little over 2 weeks post op and trying not to be impatient but I am anxious to start really feeling even more improvement.

Thanks ahead of time for anything you care to share with me. ---- Sue

    Dear Sue,

Please read my post "Good Advice for Everybody" dated 9-22 for the best post I've seen on surgery recovery --and I can say that b/c I didn't write it!

    Hang in there,

    Sue -

Take your time...you need to let your heart rest after all it has been through. Follow up with your doc and check on the possibility of lowering the dose...but do not rush it...

    Take care and feel well!
