[The HCMAis looking for 15-20 people who have had DDD pacers for 7-10 years]

    Author: Lisa Salberg (---.dyn.optonline.net)

The HCMA is looking for 15 to 20 people who have had DDD pacers for 7 or more years.

Why - The long term effects of DDD Pacing are not known.

Who - If you were between the ages of 18-35 years old at original implant and have been DDD paced since implant - -short pauses in pacing of 3-6 months will not disqualify you as long as it was over 1 year ago.

What will be done if you contact us... We will be sharing the information with a few reserachers who may wish to study the effects of pacing on the heart.

Why should you? because if we learn more from where we have been we will have a clearer picture of where we are going.

There is some evidence that long term pacing in HCM can lead to an impaired ability of the heart to function properly. If this is true or not we can not tell for sure as no long term followups have been done. Now is the time for patients to help the research community. Help them help us! If you are interested please email the HCMA at the address above...if you are a member of the medical community and want more information please contact us as well.

    Thank you,

    Lisa Salberg
