    Dear John,

Cardiac rehab is tradionally for heart attack patients. It is not usually recommended for HCMers. Who referred you to rehab? Is this coming straight from your specialist?

When I spoke with Dr. Lever at CCF he mentioned to me that I might need some Cardiac rehab after surgery. He said that while it is mostly for by-pass patients, it might be beneficial. He was not sure if insurance would cover it for HCM patients. That's all I know at this time.

    John,

I was going to post this later, as I had my first session today. According to the rehab clinic they called and my insurance covers it, however I am still leary. It does help. It basically is simple exercise (treadmill, bike) stretching and walking with a heart monitor attached and them checking your blood pressure. The stretching exercises are helping my still bones so I think it helps. Plus concidering the last time I was on a treadmill I fainted, I liked having the idea of being watched.

John - Call Dr. Asher (your doctor) at Cleveland and run it by him I think your OK on ins. and you may benefit from a short run of rehab.

    Hi everyone,

We're in Cleveland right now (although we're packing up to leave for home) for my 6 week follow-up visit. I had all of my appts this morning and things have gone well. Dr.Lever suggested that I do get into a little cardiac rehab now to help get everything back into shape; he thinks that for me it would be a valuable and important thing to do. My impression is that using the cardiac rehab may be specific to each individual and checking with the specialist as to whether it would be a good idea or not is the course to take.

Lynn - you are so right..it is a personal issue to rehab or not to rehab..that is the ? for the docs!
