    [Monty Williams]

I thought I actually heard this a couple years ago and looked it up:

Athletic 6-foot-8 forward Tavares Montgomery “Monty” Williams showed that he could score and rebound in his final two seasons at Notre Dame, but he entered the NBA as a bit of a question mark after sitting out two college seasons because of a heart condition. A native of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Williams went to Notre Dame in 1989. Before his sophomore season doctors determined that he had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a rare but potentially serious heart condition. He was forced to take two years off from competitive basketball. Declared fit in 1992, he rejoined the Notre Dame basketball team. He put in two solid seasons, averaging 18.5 points and 9.3 rebounds as a junior and then 22.4 points as a senior. The New York Knicks selected Williams with the 24th overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft. He appeared in 41 games for New York as a rookie and averaged 3.3 points."

Is this unusual?? I know everyone is different, but I thought it was kind of odd.

A co-worker of mine mentioned a family member of hers that was diagnosed with a heart problem - she thought something to do with an enlarged heart and had to sit out his senior year of sports in high school. The following year he didn't have that same problem and was then cleared to play sports.

She didn't know the specifics, so I'm not sure what the real diagnosis was to begin with.
