[15 yr old son, in ER]

Good moning, I just found this sight doing some digging on HCM. We spent time in the ER last night. My 15yr son old called me at a football game last night and said he needed to go to the hospital. He was having chest pains and a hard time breathing. He goes this morning for an echocardiogram. The ER doc seemed convinced we will find HCM. He had symtoms when he was younger, but 3 doctors and 2 towns later no one has been able to tell us what was wrong with him, they could only tell us what it wasn't! They heard a murmer last night that he said was very loud, this is the first time the murmer has been heard. i'm rambling, just nervous i guess. He plays sports and is very active. waiting for the test this morning. any prayers and good thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Sherri

    Dear Sherri,

My thoughts and prayers are truly with you and your family this morning. I'm glad you were at least able to take your dear son to the ER. Even if you find he has HCM now you can "treat" him. He might not live the life he once new but, if God allows he will still be with us for a very long time. My brother Jason lost his life to HCM 12 days ago. We never knew he had it. I have sent a notice to my church to put your son in the prayer chain. I hope God will listen. God Bless you and your son.

    Sincerly,

    Julie P.

    Dear Sherri,

Good luck with the echo. Please call the HCMA at 973-983-7429 to get the name ofa specialist. Local hospitals and doctors who are not well versed in HCM can miss it even if they are looking for it ---not often, but it happens.

Yes, most HCMers life a full life span, but you have to be seeing a specialist. Kids are at a special risk through the teen years, so please call and get hooked up with someone to make sure your son is fully evaluated.

    best wishes and good luck,

    Sarah

    Dear Sherri,

My husband & I want to say we are thinking and praying for your son and your whole family who has to go through this ordeal. I was on the web site the other day. I found that there are doctors at St. Luke- Roosevelt Hospital in New York City who do deal with HCM. Again we both hope things will go well for you son.

    God Bless and good luck,

    Jody

    Sherri -

Welcome and please know your amoung friends... You will have many questions and we will do our best to help you and your son through the process. We have many very good doctors available to help you in diagnosis and treatment of HCM. Also, if the diagnosis has been made in your son you and his father should be screened as well, along with your other children.

Read the site, take a breath and call the office... that is what we are there for.

    Best wishes,

    Lisa Salberg

Thanks so much for all of the encouraging words and prayers. The echo report will be a day or two. i was told by the tech doing the test that there was tricuspid leakage, but everything else looked ok. (she also told my son she was only 19!) i'll feel better when i get the report. the doc we were told to see won't see him because of his age. so tomorrow starts a quest for a pediatric heart doc. we will have to go out of town i'm sure. we're in Louisana if any one has any suggestions i would appreciate them. it make me feel so wonderful to see the response to my post this morning, thank you, i didn't feel so all alone anymore.

    Thanks so much,

    Sherri

    Sherri,

In the last 2 months I have been through the stress of waiting for the echo results for my children ages 20 months and 5 years. I tried not to focus on the wait, but unanswered questions just aren't my cup of tea. I was so preoccupied during the two day wait that I had ended up in the wrong fast food drive through. Luckily no one was behind me so I got to sneak out of line. But my secretary and I still laugh over it because I was in line at a restaurant we never, never, never eat at. Who knows what she would have got for lunch if I hadn't been able to get out of line.

So I understand the waiting. For my daughter the results were normal and she got to move up to the pre team for our local gymanstics program. My son at 20 months didn't have normal results. It changed a lot of our expectations and dreams, but not the one of him being around for a long, long time. We've got plenty of time to dream up new dreams!

    Amy N.

I got a copy of the echo report today, we'll see our family doctor on monday and I hope he'll explain the report. everything seems to be ok from what I read.! it feels like i can breathe again. We will pursue this futher though to find out what was causing his problems. chest pains, short of breath and turning blue around the lips is not normal, this much i'm sure of! now i just need someone to tell me what caused it. thanks again for the words of encouragement. the best to all you.

    Sherri
