Hello, Thank you for this site I am new to this forum and I think I posted my concerns in the wrong place sorry, any imput for my cocerns would really be appreciated. I am a 54 year old female normal weight no drug or alchol use and have been very active all my life.I have been a walker usually 2 to 3 miles 4 times weekly for about 10 years but my problems started long ago.I have chronic high blood pressure and blood fats that have been as high as 5000 triglycerides and cholestrol as high as 685 without meds. I have always been lightheaded when walking but blamed it on meds, finally I went to a local cardiologist and he did an echo, 2 months later his office called and saidmy heart was thickening probably due to years of high blood pressure and that I had mitral regurgitation no mention of a follow up. I got a copy of my echo and it stated this : normal left ventricular size no wall motion abnormality ej 60 to 65%. moderate mitral regurgitation, mild concentric left ventricular hypertrophy, abnormal mitral inflow pattern consistent with diastolic dysfunction, most likely associated with the left ventricular hypertrophy.About 6 months later I was feeling awful sob, fatigue, lightheadedness on exertion, tightness in chest, so my family doctor sent me to a cardiologist in Columbus ohio. Dr. Joseph Mayo he said I was to young to feel this way and did a rt and lt with coronary angio and LV gram. my family doctor showed me the report: Normal coronary arteries, ej >80% impressive left ventricular hypertrophy consistant with global hypertrophic cardiomyopathy on the basis of hypertension.I asked my family doctor about this and he just said we have to get blood pressure under better control, 20 years too late I felt like saying. The hemodynamics were all high in the left ventricle. Now for my questions Is this HCM? My symtoms are awful sometimes the only way I get relief ffrom them is to lie down and this is very hard for me as I have always been so active. I made an appointment to see Dr. Mayo oct 11th so maybe I can get more information on the measurements of my heart. I am upset and starting to get scared .Thank you so much ,Warmly Beckie from Ohio

    Dear Beckie

I'm guessing that Lisa got you hooked up with a specialist, which is the absolute best thing you can do.

Let us know how it goes and take care,
