HI EVERYONE......I HAVENT BEEN TO THE BOARD SITE LATELY...REAL BUSY THESE DAYS....

ANYWAY....I WENT TO SEE A SPECIALIST IN CHARLESTON S.C. @ MUSC. HIS NAME IS DR. NEILSEN AND HE WAS GREAT!!!

HE WAS WELL VERSED IN HCM AND ESPECIALLY HOCM, WHICH IS MY PROBLEM. HE DOES THE SEPTAL ALHCOHOL ABLATION PROCEEDURE REGULARLY. HE STARTED OUT IN HOUSTON TEXAS. HE HAS DONE APROX. 100 OF THE ABLATION PROCEDURES AT MUSC.

HE ACTUALLY TALKED TO ME AND EXPLAINED AND ASK QUESTIONS AND ANSWERED ANY AND ALL OF MY QUESTIONS. HE WENT THRU ALL MY MED RECORDS I TOOK TO HIM AND WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE FROM THEM THAT I HAD A RESTING GRADIENT OF 40 AND MY SEPTAL THICKNESS WAS 1.6, OF COURSE THIS WAS FROM RECORDS THAT ARE OVER A YEAR OLD.

HE WANTS ME TO COME BACK IN OCTOBER FOR A NEW ECHO AND BLOOD WORK SO HE CAN HAVE UPDATED INFO.

HE WAS SATISFIED WITHE THE MEDS IM TAKING AND AS EVERYONE HERE STRESSES HE WAS PUSHING THE WATER AND STAYING HYDRATED. HE WENT OVER ALL THE DOs AND DONTs. I REALLY WENT ON AND ON TO HIM ABOUT THE HCM ASSOCIATION AND THE WEB SITE. HE WAS ALREADY FAMILIAR WITH HCMA AND LISA AND DR. MARON. SAID EDUCATION ABOUT HCM WAS VERY IMPORTANT.

I AM FEELING BETTER THESE DAYS SINCE MY LOCAL CARDIOLIGIST INCREASED MY CARDIZUM FROM 240 mg TO 300mg TIAZAC. AND I MAKE SURE I DOWN AT LEAST 64 OUNCES OF WATER A DAY. MY CHEST HURTS A LOT LESS AND I HAVE A LOT LESS FLUTTERS IN MY CHEST....OH AND BY THE WAY....DR. NEILSEN SAID MY CHEST PAIN WAS A SYMPTOM OF HCM!!!.......(my local cardio said it wasent).

AND I KEEP AWAY FROM AS MUCH CAFFEINE AS I CAN. I CAN TELL WHEN I HAVE HAD TO MUCH. WELL TIME TO GO TO WORK....SEE YOU ALL LATER....CONNIE

    Dear Connie,

Fantastic! And yes, many doctors are still under the impression that chest pains are not a symptom (this is my test whenever I see a new doctor --ie in the ER or something-- to find out if they are "up" on HCM) ---but WE all know the truth!

Don't forget that dark chocolate has as much caffience as black tea! Eat milk chocolate, and not so much, if you need a fix.

    take care and cool beans!

    Sarah

PS I thought you would want to know that accordingt to Internet ettiquite, "all caps" in postings/e-mail is the verbal equivalent of yelling (and hard to read).

    Dear Sarah

I think you just ruined my night. I didn’t realize that dark chocolate had as much caffeine as black tea. I don't drink caffeine drinks, so the chocolate kisses were the only treat I was gettting. Well one more think I will have to give up or cut down on eating.

    Dear Pat,

Hershey's kisses are milk chocolate, so they aren't as bad as, say, Sno-Caps, which are dark. But go easy.

Hershey's has a new kiss, limited edition, one out that is Dark sweet chocolate and wonderful. 9 pieces is a serving of 14g fat, 230 calories. But I try not to have any more that 9 on a bad day. Less or none on a good day. Guess I will have to go back to the milk chocolate.

    Dear Pat

Oh, I hadn't seen the special edition. Yeah, I LOOOOOVE dark chocolate myself. My aunt Pam went into afib once after she ate a whole box of sno-caps, one of my favorites.

    Sarah,

I don't care for sno-caps as much as I do for the kisses, dark chocolate is the best. I even got the gift shop at the hospital to sell them (Volunteer there) Yes, you will have to try them, but don't eat to many and get sick. We all need you to moderator the Board. Thanks for all the help that you and Lisa give all of the HCM e-mailers. I have learned so many things in the last 2 months. It sure is good not to be alone with HCM.

Hi Connie! Hoe did your appt with Dr. Nielsen go? My father was recommended to go there too for an ablation. We want him to see an HCM specialist first. Do you have an HCM specialist? Where do you reside? We live in the triangle area!

    Erica : )
