I went to the HCM specialists at Tutfs yesterday (Dr. Maron) And came home feeling better. Not from what they did, but by what they said. Just like some of the threads on here my regualr cardiologist would say that my symptoms had nothing to do with my HCM which made me feel like I was losing it. But yesterday they told me my symptoms are related to my HCM. They are going to try me on new medication (verapamil) instead of the lopressor. They right now its trial and error. But im up to try anything. The only thing that I was a bit scared about was they want me to stop taking the lopressor for about 1 week -1 1/2 weeks. This scared me because I was scared about my heart rate, and setting my ICD off. But then they made me fell a little more comfortable. They explained to me that there is really no known facts that medicines stop arrythmias, but can stablize them. Which made me feel alittle better and made me think, that when all of our ICDs go off we are all on medicines and they dont stop it. Id just like to say thanks Lisa for refering me to TUFTS. And when Dr. Maron asked how I had scheduled an appointment with them I told him throught the HCMA website and Lisa, and he chuckled and said "Lisa, I know Lisa very well, we are very good friends"

I thought Dr. Maron was at the Minneapolis Heart Institute. Someone told me he will be retiring soon, any truth to that rumor?

Mary,
Martin Maron -son- is at Tufts and dad-Barry is an MHI. I don't know about retiring --maybe he'll post here and let us know his status.

What a Wonderful day! I am finally going to Boston to see Dr. Maron on October 11th ! The best part is that I won't be doing this by myself! I'll be there the same time that the "BIG CHEESE" (no not mickey mouse) Lisa will be there. The gang up there was so considerate that we will even get out echos done together how about that! I have never seen a group go so far out of their way to help people! And a big hug and thank you goes out to Lisa! You made this happen and I'm thankful!
The timing isn't all that good though! The very next day I am due to be the Matron of Honor at my best friends wedding in Florida. I could not believe how much it costs to fly out on a saturday morning! Round trip $505 that almost gave me chest pains in itself. So I have to leave out on Friday night only $312 that way.So much for seeing Boston. Still hoping my insurance approves this before I go! If anyone has any suggestions on where to stay while I'm there it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for everyone's help you guys made this possible!
Mary S.

Dear Mary
Please tell the airline that you are on a medical trip-most have discounts. Try Nortwest, since MN is their hub.
