Hi--
I'm sure I've read about this somewhere, but I couldn't find it on the older threads.
What is a person with an ICD supposed to do when encountering metal detectors in airports, schools and other public buildings.

From my recent literature, we can walk through metal detectors wothout any problems. They just advise not stopping in the middle of them.
Also, the security wands at the airports must be avoided. We have to be hand-searched. Hope this helps.

Depends on the manufacturer of the ICD. Mine is from Guadiant and you are registered nationally and giving a special card. When going thru a gate I show the gaurds my card and they perform a manual pat down, then I just walk around the detectors. ( You should see the looks you get sometimes, LOL)

Tom,
I think everyone has a card. There are 3 ICD manufactures (Guidant, Medtronic, St. Jude Medical), and I have a card from Medtronic.
As for the mental dectectors, I go through them. Around 60% of the time it goes off. Then I tell them I have an ICD and they do a hand search. Stay away from the wand. I have never had a problem with requesting a hand search, and I almost never have to use the card.

Now Lisa you know that they have to use the same sex searchers. Prior to 9/11, I had to be searched and they did not have a male available who had been trained. They had this trainee search me while someone told him what to do.
Talk about great security!!!!
