    [also saw hcm specialist today]

I'm like Pat, finally saw a specialist, and I'm glad I did! First off I was really nervous, because my experience with cardiologists has not been especially positive. I find that for the most part they tend to be very cold--wonder if that's a requirement? But anyway, when I got to the hcm specialist I found out that my cardio's office hadn't sent over my records, so I had to fill in the doc on everything I could. I'll see him in a month once he's had a chance to review the records.

He did say that from what he could hear and from my history he thinks my hcm is obstructive. And he mentioned a procedure which I've never heard of before--it involves closing off one of the arteries and causing a heart attack, at which point some of the stiffened muscle will die, resulting in less obstruction to the heart. Does anybody else know of this?

Once more, though, I'm very glad to have gone. I feel like I'm finally in competent hands.

    Dear Mary,

I think he was talking about an ablation. Don't jump too quickly on an ablation, you have to really know that this is the right option for you. There is some concern that they are getting to be "popular" in cardiology right now. However, many people have had very successful ones, so I'm not trying to rain on the parade, but suggesting taking all due caution.

Too bad about the records --so typical! Let us know what happens next month,
