    [implantable defibrillators]

    Author: robin (---.tnt4.winston-salem.nc.da.uu.net)

    Date: 09-09-02 17:57

    Hi,

I am newly diagnosed with genetic hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

It seems that an implantable defibrillator is an option for me.

Does anyone have any input or experience with these devices?

    thanks

    Dear Robin,

There are many people here who have ICDs. Please review all the old threads in here that mention ICDs to read the conversations. Also read the rest of the web site's info about HCM in general.

If you need to find an HCM specialist or want to get on the mailing list or both, please call the office at 973-983-7429.

You don't say how old you are, or your family situation, so I'll mention this in case you don't know, but if you were not aware of HCM being in the family, please make sure that any parents, siblings and children you may have get screened for HCM too.

Take care, and welcome to the club,

    Sarah

    Hi Robin,

I have an ICD and would be happy to tell you about it. I have had it since June 99 and was diagnosed with HCM in December of 97.

    Julie
