Hi Shirley, I am sorry to hear about the rough time your Dad is having. He is in my thoughts and prayers too, along with everyone else.

My 9 year old has HCM (had a mitral valve repair & myectomy last September). She also had phneumonia in November after getting blocked sinuses from hayfever and allergies. I was suprised when the doctor told me but she said that when you have a blocked nose, it makes you breath through your mouth which is not good for the lungs. Once the sinuses were dealt with (and antibiotics etc), the phneumonia got better. We now have to be vigilant at keeping Anna's airways clear when she has a cold or hayfever.
Of course, then there are restrictions on what you can take etc so it becomes a bit of a vicious circle!

Anyway, all the best to you and your Dad. I really hope he improves soon. I know it must be a stressful time for you.

i just want you to know u guys are in our prayers just stay strong for him i know you are probably a reack but let him know u are ok and you are with him we he needs you the most don't give up

Alison,
I found a great way to keep my nasal passages clear – or to clear them – is the use of a spray bottle of just saline solution. I’m sure your drug stores carry them in NZ as they do in the US. It doesn’t interfere with any of the drugs, and it does a good job for me. Just two sprays in each nostril and everything opens up.

I would like to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers, they worked I have dad home he has to wear oxygen all the time now, and I'm getting home health for dad also he still wheezes all the time Friday I take him back to his primary care doctor and we will go from there again a big thanks to everyone

Thanks Burt for the advice about saline - good thinking. My son's allergy specialist has told me to get a new sea spray product that is similar to saline but it is only available in Australia at the moment. My family are flying over to Melbourne tomorrow for a two week holiday to visit my husband's parents and extended family. Our son Adam is already over there on a basketball tour, representing NZ in the Under 14 basketball team - very exciting for us!

Keep well Burt - I always read your postings and really admire your upbeat and positive attitude - even when you are obviously having some rough times.
You are the 'wise one' on this board and I enjoy your sense of humour and the way you take time to help everyone - thank you!

Glad to hear your dad is home . There is no place like home with a daughter who gives such great care. Just take the time for you as well. Glad you are getting some services in to help. Yeah for the visiting nurses!
