[Are their other reasons for increased septal size?]

Just wondering if there are other reasons, outside of HCM, that cause an increased size in septum. I'm still trying to piece together how I can have a septal size of 1.5 cm last year and 1.2 cm this year. I wonder if my previous echo wasn't very good since the newer echo was done at a top echo place. That could be one explanation of the changes. I wondered if anyone else new of any other reasons/explanations.
I still haven't heard from the doctor and don't expect to for at least another week. (After my sons and fathers appointment) I did get a copy of what the cardiologist sent to my family doctor, but it was a letter sent out before any of the test results were back. So nothing new or of importance there.
So I'm going to sign this as waiting for good news in Southern Indiana,
Amy

Dear Amy,
The difference you report is within the range of variation between different echo tests. It is unlikely that your septal wall has changed. However, there is some evidence that people on beta-blockers for a long time have had their hypertrophy reduce.

Thanks Sarah. I've never been on any medicine, so I know that can't be the reason. So I'm still guessing it's just the range of variation for the two different echos.

Well Sarah...not really, those with high blood pressure can have a reduction in hypertrophy if treated for the Hi b/p but in a family with HCM...I would doubt it greatly... In Amy's case we have a son with possible HCM, a dad with an abnormal ECG... and a mom( Amy) with a septal measurement from 1.5 to 1.2 - -NOT an easy case for anyone to put together.
Amy - -I would like to talk to you as I may have a top researcher interested in looking at your family. Due to a recent data...some questions are being raised about children like your son and I think it may provide some answers for you as well.
Call me I will be in the office on Wed --9/11-- (oh God I can not believe that day is already here;-(
Best to all,
Lisa
