    Dear Shelva,

It is not that metabolic diseases contribute to HCM, but that something else besides HCM caused the heart damage or arrythmias in the first place.

I am sorry that I don't know more about what other diseases cause enlarged hearts (HCM is not technically an enlarged heart, but a heart with thick walls). I only know that HCM is very rare in such small babies, but is possible. However, other causes should be looked into if at all possible.

I know that this is incredibly frustrating to not know what happened and I'm truly sorry I can't give you more insight. However, Lisa (our president) may have more info and she is at 973-983-7429.

    best wishes
