    [Anyone from California?]

    Author: Chris Brown (209.77.217.---)

    Hi,

I have been on this website for a month now and have not seen many responses from anyone in California. Anyone else from the West Coast?

I am also preparing for a procedure next week, a Upper & Lower endoscopy next Thursday. I came back with a low hemoglobin count (Anemia) of 12.6. Normal for man my age is 14. I guest my count has been getting lower since 1999.

I am a little nervous about the procedure but I know it is the best thing to do is find out whats going on inside me. The Doctor reccomends me stopping my Coumadin 5 days before the procedure, and IV antibiotics during(because of my history of endcarditis and A-fib). Any advice from anyone on this procedure.?

Have a great labor Day weekend everbody?

    Thanks

    Chris

P.S. Please say a prayer they don't find anything.

Chris, I am in southern California. Where are you? There was another lady last week, Sharon B also in California. I don't know of any others. Good luck with your procedure. I will say a prayer that all goes well. Have a great weekend.

I am and have been in Northern California all my life. Do you know of any HCM specialist in California?

    Thanks for your kind words.

    Chris

I only know of one specialist, whose name I got from Lisa at the HCMA office. He's here near LA, though. There may be one who is not far from you in northern CA. You can certainly call Lisa and ask. She is always happy to help those of us who need help locating specialists. By the way, I don't have HCM, but my husband does. Sometimes I think I am more his advocate than he is. I'm sorry that I know nothing about the procedures you're about to go through, but I will be thinking about you and saying a prayer next week. Good luck!

    Dear Chris,

    Two things:

Please talk to your doctor about switching to a short-acting blood thinner for the 5 days before the procedure to make sure you are protected. There is a reason you are on the coumadin! (I'm a little sensitive on this topic b/c they took my mom off of coumadin for a procedure and she had a stroke b/c they didn't do the short acting.)

The mayoclinic.com site has a lot of info--do a search for endoscopy. I found a video on it, even.

    good luck,

    Sarah

Chris - I'll pray for you - I've had endoscopy before - just think of the good nap you'll get - hope that all is well - I live in the Long Beach, CA area. Take care - Sharon Binder

Chris-Best of luck to you....sorry I've never had that done, but I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Sharon-I'm in San Diego, just wondering who you see up in Long beach.....as that's pretty close for me and I'm always looking for a better doctor! ~Thanks
