    [Cousin has same symptons]

my first cousin has all the same symptons as me except he passes out everytime he sits up in bed. he went to cleveland clinic a few years ago but was never diagnosed but now i have been diagnosed do you think he should go back to the doctor and tell his doctor his cousin has HCM and get checked again? just curious. also just got a copy of my medical records and apparently the military has known about my problem for over a year. i am very upset with this news because i could have been saved a lot of pain.

    Dear Amanda,

I have heard a lot of bad things about military doctors (and 1 good thing, to be fair) --what is their excuse for not telling you about your condition? As if there is any.

When he went to the Cleveland Clinic, who did your cousin see? It sounds like he really needs to see an HCM specialist. He could be at risk if he is passing out all the time --that is very extreme. He should get in touch with the HCM doctors over there as ap.

    How are you doing?

    S

i told him to get back in touch with his doctor or doctor lever. they have not gave me a reason as to why they did not tell me until a year ago. all my ECG for the last year have been abnormal but they failed to mention that to me also. i will get in touch with my doctor tomorrow and ask. they will probably give me the run around. i am doing pretty well actually.

    Dear Amanda,

Please call the HCMA to get the name of a specialist, or call Dr. Lever's office for an appointment.

    Amanda -

I would have a long talk with your doc and ask why you were not told of your diagnosis. Also re your cousin - you can have them call the Clinic and speak to the docs and ask them to review the prior test with knowledge that there is HCM in the family that may give them the key they need to unlock his situation.

    Best to all

    Lisa
