    Hello,

You all have a wonderful board going here!

My husband was recently diagnosed with obstructive HCM and I was wondering, does anyone know of any specialists in Alaska to recommend?

    Thanks for your help!

Heather...Not much going on in the HCM community in Alaska. Can you travel for a consult to a specialist?

Travel to the lower 48 can be very expensive from Alaska, and as young newlyweds we're just starting out financially. An alaskan specialist would definitely be more convienent. However, I'd like to say that if travel is what's required for proper treatment, we will find a way to do it.

I've read on some posts here about the option to see a local doctor who then keeps in contact with an out of town specialist. Perhaps this is something to look into.

Anchorage does have a Heart Institute ( http://www.alaskaheart.com/index.html )which I plan to contact. There is one doctor in particular there who specializes in cardiac electrophysiology and who also has interest in management of arrythmias and sudden death prevention. He may be one to talk to if nothing else.

Where would the nearest specialists to Alaska be? There are some good airline deals to Seattle, Salt Lake City, and Portland from time to time. Are there any in these areas?

    Thanks again for your help.
