[Anyone have these symptoms?]

My husband had some different feelings in his chest tonight. Up until recently he hasn't had any symptoms for his HCM. Tonight he felt like there was a dull achy 'pain' in his chest and it was hard to catch his breath. All he was doing at the time was sitting on the couch watching tv. He also had a headache. He sees the cardiologist on Thursday. I was just wondering if anyone else has had symptoms like this. Thanks for any input.

Hi Reenie,

Yes these are common symptoms with HCM. shortness of breath at rest is rathere common. Chest "pain" is actually a bad name as it is not always "painful" yet is uncomfortable. With his very large measurements I am not suprised at all that he is having these symptoms. Let the doctor know what is going on, a medication change may be in order.

Best wishes,

Lisa

I have been wondering about the meds change myself, the more I read. His is such a low dose. He was reluctant to say that the feeling in his chest was pain, but didn't know how else to quantify it. I guess it really was more uncomfortable than pain. After about 30 - 45 minutes he felt much better. I wonder, he recently changed jobs and this one is much more stressful than his old one. I wonder if there is any connection at all with the recent job change and the recent onset of sporadic symptoms? Any thoughts?

Yes, I think stress can bring on symptoms. I hear it very often and I will be honest and say that I had not been a believer that stress can cause an increase in symptoms...however... I have seen the light and the pain! During a period of HIGH stress in my real job, I began to have severe symptoms. After taking time off and really reevaluating my priorities...the symptoms have backed off a great deal!

I get that feeling about 5 times a day. I keep telling the doctor that on a scale of 0 to 10 my pain is 0.5 this get the information across. I am in a,f, all the time and the last medication was amiodarone without success. I am now on coumadin and feel good I get short of breath . but I have no side effects from any blockers.

Henry,

Thanks for letting me know how you feel with yours. My husband sees the cardiologist on Thursday, so maybe we can change some meds then. He has an ICD, so we'll find out then whether or not anything weird was recorded on it then too. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
