Well, I cancelled my endoscopy scheduled for today (appointment was made just yesterday). I found out that if you're on coumadin, you should stop taking it for 3-5 days prior to the procedure. Also, I couldn't get it straight as to how to pre-medicate (taking an antibiodic prior to procedure)...they never even asked me yesterday when she made the appointment if I was on coumadin, etc. what a mess this was today. I was bounced around to 3-4 doctors...one nurse tells me ask you PCP...another says that's up to the gastro doctor, etc. etc. Then I get a call back from the gastro nurse and she informs me that the doctor can do a "visual" endoscopy and I would not need to stop the coumadin...yaaa, right...I wasn't about to take THAT chance!! have a call into one of my doctors....you have to weigh the risk of stopping the coumadin to not stopping it and taking a slight risk of bleeding during the procedure..has anyone had to go through this??
