    Hi Shirley,

Hope you are doing well. I'm slowly recovering from the myectomy. I never had arm pain associated with chest pain prior to my myectomy. But since the surgery I have noticed a slight ache on the left side of my chest and left arm. Maybe this is related to my sternum healing??

    Take care of yourself,

I always have left arm pain with chest pain. It is not a sharp pain but it feels like my chest gets tight and then the tightness radiates all the way down my left arm.

Prior to my myectomy I would get left arm pain if the chest pain persisted.( mid sternum and left chest area ) For me it varied in degrees, duration, and intensity.

The pain nowadays is immediate left arm type chest pain . Adding a CCB along with my beta blocker helps me reduce this occurence of left arm, radiating, chest pain.

            Shirley,

Is this something new for you? If so, you may want to ask about it. I know that you are reluctant to see doctors right now, but it is worth checking out.

As far as whether others have this, I think the answer is that many of us do. I recall a thread where many wrote about the location of their heart pains and this one turned up often.

Chest and left arm pain were my first clear symptoms. I had had a squeezing pain in my back since childhood whenever I exerted myself, but never associated this with heart. However, when I was about 30 my husband and I went jogging every night and every night I had to quit because of chest and left arm pain. My husband nagged me to check it out, but it took 25 more years before I got bad enough to be diagnosed.

              Shirley-
I too have chest pain & some times it radiates to my left shoulder. I take Imdur, which is a long term nitrate, so it opens my blood vessels (not a very clinical explanation), but it does help the pain. I also use a nitro spray when the pain is very bad. I did not have these episodes prior to my myectomy, but it's just a progression of the disease!
Talk w/Dr (always a pleasant experience, right?) about Imdur.
I also experience this sensation in my chest, as if a balloon is being blown up inside. Does anyone else experience this?
