    [Dr. appointments at Cleveland Clinic]

I am in the process of getting my first referral. Do you have to be seen by a cardiologist before seeing a surgeon? It seems to me that an evaluation by a specialist should be done first and then the next step would be a surgeon or someone who does the other interventions depending on what is found. I am getting some mixed info from my own Dr.about how he thinks we should proceed.

I think I may be finding how much of a "sub-speciality" this is in cardiology. My cardiologist has a great reputation, yet I feel there is a lot more about this to be learned. The fact the term IHSS is still being used made me wonder how current his information is on HCM.

I would appreciate any comments on this. Thankyou.

    Hi Sue

Yes you need to see a cardiologist first at The clinic . Dr Harry Lever or Dr. Asher are the two main guys to see . They are the ones who set you up for surgery if needed After a battery of tests to see if you really need surgery. It takes a couple of months to get an appt. unless your cardiologist can contact them and set it up sooner.

Kay has it correct. You need to be evaluated by a cardiologist 1st then if needed you will be referred to a surgeon.
