I've been here b 4. thank you... My Questions is SIMPLE? in 1957 HCM was discover. NOW how come after that years, hcm seems to developed more and more and affected people in the world. I think HCM comes from what we eat. because there are lots of chemicals they put on food like BEEF MEAT, vagetabla and some sort.. I think we now have to really do some SERIOUS research on this wether this hcm is linked to the food that we eat.. also like cancer.. where does canser come.. we all know that its from smoking and secondhand smoke...but how come it affected women opn breaset cancer...i think its from where and what we eat....please lets help each other to fight this hcm....thsnk you...Emmanuel..

Hello -
HCM is a genetic condition and prior to 1957 or so the technology was not available to detect the condition. HCM was thought to be many other conditions pre 1950's. Even today HCM is misdiagnosed as many other conditions prior to the conformation of HCM.
The availability of echocardiograms have allowed HCM to be detected and our understanding of genetics have thought us whom to look at within families.
So I would have to disagree with your statement and no I do not believe HCM is food related, nor environmental to the degree you suggest.
Sincerely,
Lisa Salberg

Emmanuel, I agree with Lisa, HCM was not just discovered in 1957, but instead like many other conditions and diseases have always been around, but with newer technology we can isolate and give them specific names.
Previously like in my Grandmother and Fathers cases who both passed with a heart related condition, in my Fathers case it was just diagnosed as an enlarged heart because HCM was not a common diagnoses back then and in my Grandmothers case non-existent, however there is little doubt they both had HCM and I am sure if I could go back futher there would be other similar cases in my family tree.
They have pretty well proven it is a genetic condition rather than brought on by life style.
Stay well
Glen
