  • Another coq10 question

I have decided to start on coq10 but there are so many brands out there I'm having a hard time deciding on which to use. Does anyone recommend a certain brand that they've tried that works or vice-versa.

Oh and I know that there have been no conclusive tests regarding the use and benefits of coq10 but it's hard to deny all the research that is out there. So if anyone has a certain brand that they prefer over another please let me know. Thanks!

    Darek,

I started taking CoQ10 not long after i was diagnosed and found it to be of benefit. There are others here who take it as well. I had to stop all medications for my myectomy, including the CoQ10, and unfortunately i haven't yet found the extra pocket change to start taking it again. However:

The brand i used to buy is the Spring Valley brand from Walmart, 100mg softgels. It's in a white bottle with a green and yellow label and a green cap. The bottles on the shelf at the time had 33% more free, so you got 40 for the price of the 30-count. I did some shopping around and found this to be the best deal where i live. It's been about a year ago now since i stopped buying it, but at the time it was around 11 bucks a bottle.

Regardless of which brand you choose, the important thing to consider with CoQ10 is that it should be in an oil-base mixture (usually with Vitamin E) which provides the best absorption. Also, as with any vitamin or supplement, make sure that what you buy has the USP symbol on it, which means that it has been independently tested for potency and contains what the bottle says it does. The Spring Valley brand i mentioned above fulfilled all these requirements and was pretty cheap to boot.

Others will chime in here as well.

Excellent. THank you very much! There's a Wal-mart down the street from me. By the way, how did you feel after a few months of taking it?

        Darek,

Honestly i felt that it did a great job for me. At first i didn't know whether it was the CoQ10 that was making me feel better, or a recent change in heart meds. Then a bit later on i stopped taking it for a while because i couldn't afford it, and i noticed a big change in my energy level. There have been many discussions here on the board regarding CoQ10, and the simple fact is that there has never been a properly-conducted study of it's benefits. However, those that take it seem to swear by it.

To get a good feel for people's thoughts on this, do a search of the board (the link is up above) and enter CoQ10 for the search criteria. You'll find many posts, both for and against it as well as one thread where people were talking about what brand they were using and where they got it from.

        Take care,

        Jim
