I have been diagnosed with HCM Obstructive type for some 15 years now. I have run the gambit of oral heart medications-with some success, but my symptoms are worsening. My cardiologist wants to do aln Alcohol Septal Ablation procedure to help alieviate my problems.I have not been able to find a lot of information about this procedure-especially anything recent. Help!! Has anyone undergone this procedure that could share their experience?Or does anyone know of an information source that has recent information about this procedure?? Any input would be greatly appreciated- Thanks-Lisa

Dear Lisa

There are people here who have had this procedure. It is relatively new and some feel that it is "over prescribed" for HCM patients. I highly, highly, highly recommend you call the HCMA office at 973-983-7429 to talk to Lisa Salberg about your situation and get you hooked up with an HCM specialist to give you a second opinion on the procedure.

take care

Sarah

Ablations are very popular at this time; I would strongly suggest a second and even third opinion prior to doing this procedure. There are many factors that can make someone a good or bad candidate for the procedure and I have seen a BIG push in some center to do the procedure without all factors being balanced. I know I am sounding a little less than positive, but I am concerned about some of these centers. HCM is NOT a disease of OBSTRUCTION; it is a chronic, lifelong, condition of CELL STRUCTURE. The removing of obstruction may take away some symptoms of HCM, but others will remain.

I believe it is a good idea to get at least one opinion from a center that is experienced in BOTH ablation and surgery...

Call the office for more information.

And please read thought the message board for prior postings on same topic.

Best to all,

Lisa
