  • Timing of echos for teens

Well my 'first born' will be a teenager in a week and a half. Finally! Now I don't have to think anymore... since he knows EVERYTHING!!

Anyway, I know this question has been asked before but at my appointment with Dr. Wigle, he stated that kids should be checked every 3 years once they hit age 12. This didn't seem right to me, although I didn't question it....I simply nodded my head and tried to remain upright. (I was sooo exhausted).

Now that he has said this, and possibly put it in my file, how am I going to convince any other Dr to give my kids echos more often then every 3 yrs? After all, this advice came from the top(or near the top).

I'm thinking they should be tested by ECHO every year.

Many thanks, hope everyone is well.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Dx in Feb/99. Obstructed. No ICD, no surgeries, no family history. 2 sons ages 14 and 6.

In the past year the guidelines have been formally changed in 2 different articles published. Screenings should be done annually from age 12-20.

    Best wishes,

Yes, they changed how often echos should be done here in Nova Scotia 2 years ago.. I was having trouble getting the cardiologists at the IWK to do an echo on my daughter and my family doctor told me then that they had changed it to every year.
