Hi, All!

Just wanted to share the news with you about my 15-yr old's screening for HCM. I'm happy to report that the tests showed that he does NOT have it!

.....realizing of course that he will need to be screened yearly......until - what? Age 20?

But, for now...I'm one SMILING MAMA!

Congrats on the clean screen. Great news.

As for further tests, the guidelines are approximately 12-18 months till he's 20 and every 2 years in the 20s and every 5 years after that. Sadly, it does happen that some people are not diagnosed till later in life, so it is safe to keep getting tested.

I do not know if the average age of diagnosis is something that runs in the family --for example, everyone in my family was found in childhood or early teens. But I don't know if that is a trend that doctors see a lot of ---Lisa, do you know?
