Hi Jen,
I'm going to buzz in on this one (no pun intended).
The general concensus is that HCM'ers should avoid recreational drugs and alcohol as much as possible, if not entirely. I've done a bit of research on this myself and have found that the most commonly reported heart-related side effect from smoking pot is increased heartrate. One study in particular found that test subjects using marijuana alone experienced an average increase in heartrate of 29 beats per minute at rest. This is something that us HCM'ers would naturally want to avoid, especially given that it is chemically induced and does not take into account the additional burden on the heart caused by physical activity and/or alcohol and other street drugs in combination with pot.
That said... i personally feel that of all the drugs out there including alcohol, pot is probably the least worrisome. I'd be much more comfortable rollin' up a big fatty than drinking a shot of Jack Daniels at this point. The primary concern for me would be in making sure it's not laced with anything. There's some stuff out there that'll send an HCM'er to the ER (or the morgue) in a heartbeat.
It's your personal choice of course. Just be careful who you get your sh*t from.

I agree with Jim on this one. However, if you are going to partake in any "recreational" use of these items minimize the amount you use.
