    [Norpace]

    Hi,

My doctor just prescribed Norpace CR 150mg twice a day beginning July 1, when he returns from vacation. I read in the Norpace website that people with cardiomyopathy should not take more than 100 mg at first. Does anyone have any experience with norpace? I am now taking Atenolol 100 mg twice a day and Lipitor 40 mg once. The new Rx will be in addition to what I am now taking.

    Dear Ralph

FDA guidelines recommend that Norpace therapy should be initiated in the hospital because of the risk of "adverse events." That is how I started mine. Also, is this for atrial fibrillation or to control other types of rhythm problems? It is normal to take Norpace with a beta-blocker (the atenolol).

Please call the HCMA at 973-983-7429 to get the name of an HCM specialist.

    Hi -

Are you going in patient to start the meds? What is the purpose of the addition, what are your symptoms, and are you obstructed?

    Ralph,

I have been taking Norpace CR and tenormin (attenolol) for 6 or 7 years. I was admitted to the hospital for 3 days to be sure I had no adverse affects. I am up to 500mg of Norpace (100mg and a 150mg capsule 2x a day) and 100 mg of tenormin 2x a day. Not to mention 240mg of verapamil 2x a day. This combination works very well for me. I am obstructed. Check with your doctor about being admitted when the norpace is introduced.

    Carol
