  • not feeling well.....

Hi all, I haven't been feeling to good, having alot of trouble with atrail fib. and low blood pressure, today in the doctors office my blood pressure was 88 over 50 and later in the day, while shopping in the store I had another bad run of AF along with that I had very painful chest pains and sweating and shortness of breath, I couldn't hardly even walk, I didn't have enough stregnth to lift any packages I bought, when I got to the front of the store the clerk helped me to a chair, after the AF started going away along with the symptoms ( that time it lasted about 20 minutes before I could get moving again) , the people working there said I had turned completely white, I had my mom call my local cardiologist and he said if I felt worst to go to the hospital for a ekg. Earlier the doc had asked me how I know I'm in AF and I thought he's crazy, because I can feel it. My local doc doesn't want to give me a handicap sticker to park close by because he wants me exocize. I can't believe the pain I was in, it was so intense and I still feel weak. Also, they'r having a **** of a time getting my coumindin levels right instead of going up, they are steadly going down and I am worried about my BP, I don't understand why it is so low, he really didn't have a answer for that, besides he cut my lasix out for now, I have already been cut form 40mg to 20mg on that. I also have these bad headaches with the AF. I am starting to wonder if we are ever gonna get this under control and I truelly feel disabled with some of these runs with AF I can't walk, lift,or move around in general without pain or shortnes of breath, and can't keep up with my family or friends, even doing light housework can take me double the time to finsh and wear me out, like doing dishes is even hard with AF, lifting the trunk hach is hard on my lil car and couldn't even put my things I bought at the store in my car with out help from the store clerk today. Is this normal for others?

    Re: not feeling well.....

    Hi Jen,

I'm so sorry to hear you are having such a rough time right now. I wish I could give you some good advice or a response that would be helpful with regards to the afib but I'm not a good one to discuss that. However, it sounds like there is a number of factors at play right now. If the local docs can't give you an answer, I think it might be time to call the specialist at CCF. He might be able to get the ball moving in the right direction for you down here with just some phone conversations/calls...

Let me know what happens and I'll be thinking of you,
    All the best,
    Lynn

P.S. What a wonderful picture you have up for your avatar!!

        Hey Jen,
If you feel you need a handicapped placard and your PCP won’t fill out the paper for it, - well, simply ask your cardiologist.

About your other problems – I wish I could help, but I’m clueless. The only thing I would possibly advise is that when you are in your car, do not drive until you are feeling better. If you need assistance use your cell phone – which I’m sure you always carry with you.

            Jen,

I know you have seen Dr. Lever in the past. I would suggest you give him a call and explain what is happening. These symptoms are significant and not what you have explained to me in the past. I would want to get to the bottom of WHY this happened?
            Have you been retaining fluid?

Have you been watching your diet? By this I mean regarding the coumidin levels - too many greens can minimize its effectiveness.

Take care and please call Dr Lever

              Re: not feeling well.....

In my experience, the little booklet of foods with vitamin K levels in it (the one that comes with your first script or from the doctor) is very limited and was not very useful.

I, too, had widely changing levels and it was only when I went online and found my own lists of K levels did I discover that my occaisional strawberry binge and my daily oatmeal were tanking my coumadin levels.

              http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?t...dspice&dbid=32

              http://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu...vitamin-k.html
              Brussels sprouts, 1/2 cup 460
              Broccoli, 1/2 cup 248
              Cauliflower, 1/2 cup 150
              Swiss chard, 1/2 cup 123
              Spinach, raw, 1 cup 120
              Beef, 3.5 oz 104
              Pork, 3.5 oz 88
              Eggs, whole, large 25
              Strawberries, 1 cup 23
              Oats, 1oz, dry 18
              Milk, 8 oz, whole 10

I can't find the really big list I had right now but I'll try and post it later.

Good luck and call Dr. Lever. Tell your local guy to read up on afib and pound sand (in a nice way, of course!).

              take care,

              S

                Re: not feeling well.....

I eat a regular diet, heart healthy, I wastch everything, I don't switch foods at all. I eat mostly fruit, bananas, apples, I drink skim milk and not much of it, I use splenda, I don't eat any type of white bread, only whole grains and the same amount every day, I keep a journal of every single bite I eat, no exeptions. I drink lots of water. I have been on warifrin (couminden) for years I know what I should eat and I stay on the same eating habit consistantly. The cardio here thinks its drug intereactions??? I have been told I am a health freak, and when I do eat vegs, such as cloiflower and broccoli I eat it consistantly, I take in between 1,200 to 1,700 cals a day and I eat low fat too. Also I do not hardly touch meat, my diet consist of mostly fish, legumes, and some chicken, I don't eat much pork and hardly ever eat any type of red meat, I stay in the $ oz, serving size range on meats, and weight everything else on scales, to make be sure of intake. What do most of you eat in this case, cause if cut anything else out, I might as well not eat at all??

                    Just a thought...
It may be a good idea to speak to a dietitian - You may feel better with more protien in your diet. I know it has made a world of difference to me. It does not need to be from red meat - it can come from many different places.
                    just a thought.

                    Take care,
                    Lisa

                      Re: not feeling well.....

I have been seeing a dietician already, I have been seeing her for about 6 months and she said I am doing everything that I should be and has no further suggestions, like I said I am on top of my health care. Also I ended up very ill with AF again tonight, walked to a near by store and when I got thre I got the AF going and couldn't even care a sm. pack of bananas to the register, the chest pain ws so bad, the worst thing I have ever felt, I had to call for a ride home even knowing it's right around the corner, I couldn't even walk it this rythm, I tried to get a BP and after trying twice I couldn't get any reading or even much of a pulse, I did go to the hospital and they couldn't catch it and they said my ekg ws ok and blood work was ok, but my INR is not at a thyraputic level and that scare the **** out of me, just can't get those numbers up. still in the 1's. I can't believe how bad the pain is. and that I can't even take care of yself when I get that bad. My lil girl is very scared she has seen this 2 times now. How is it AF is so painful? and debillating? I can't wait to get to cleveland. I really need to know what others feel, if others symptoms are this painful too. I am so afraid of having a stroke or heart attack with all that is happening to me, I guess I will be getting a halter monitor tomarrow, is there anything I can get for the pain when it hits like that bad or do I have to suffer?????? please help asap!

Jen, I know you can't wait to get to Cleveland to find out what is 'acceptable' or not but am I overlooking that you have called Dr. Lever to get him involved already??

If you haven't, please call right now so that he can help coordinate your care down here in our area.

                          Jen,
for the love of G*d, why can't your doctor see you ASAP?? Did you say your appointment isn't until Oct.26,27th? They SHOULD fit you in....this is not for a routine visit...please give his office a call and demand to see him asap. I know doctors can carry a full appointment load, but trust me, they squeeze in patients who absolutely need to be seen all the time. Sometimes you just have to be demanding in order to be seen sooner....I've done this a few times with primary care doctors I've had in the past. If you get a nurse that won't give in, ask to speak to her supervisor or tell her you want the doctor to call you back . Tell them about this recent episode... We are all pulling for you....hang in there, help is coming

                          Sincerely,
                          Cynthia
