  • Echocardiogram Question

I had my first echo in over a year, and something is troubling me about it

The last five echo's that I have done, they have come up with a measurement of 2.2 cm, today the guy came up with 1.2cm

He was also looking at my twin brothers chart, and basing his measurements on them. Once I pointed out to the tech that he was looking at my brothers info, he shrugged and balled up the paper and threw it out.

My question is without having anything done, is it possible to see a reduction in septum size

The doctor will review the echo today, and I see him on the first for a follow up appointment

    Thanks

    Re: Echocardiogram Question

Wait, he balled the paper up and threw it away? Your paper or your brother's? Does your brother have HCM? What about documentation? To answer your question, there can be different readings for sure. My husband's readings have always been mid to high 3 cm. We had one technician, though, who measured it at 5.2 cm. I'm not sure how it was so far off, but I watched the echo and even the doctor (not a specialist) thought it was 5.2 cm. Apparently there was a mixup on the way to measure, or where to measure. Good luck with your search for answers.

      Re: Echocardiogram Question

He balled up my brothers info. He printed off what he thought was my last echo report (which was my brother, who doesn't have HCM) and when I looked at it, I saw my brothers name.

        Re: Echocardiogram Question

NO it is not likely that your HCM would just "go away" IF there were a decrease in thinkness there may be some answers (such as disease progression...but - 1cm in 1 year) I would think the tech took a bad echo and I would request a redo.

        Take care,
