OK, OK, I’ll be serious again,
When I was a relatively new diabetic patient I went to a symposium on the condition, and the audience was asked by a show of hands, which had tingling or a loss of all feeling in the bottoms of their feet. It turned out to be the vast majority of the group. I have since read lots of literature which strongly recommends that the sufferer should never walk barefoot because of the risk of doing damage to your feet and not knowing it. With the poor circulation of diabetics in their extremities, a wound often will not heal and the removal of the limb, or a part of it, is frequently the ultimate result. Every time I see my Endocrinologist he checks the bottom of my feet for loss of sensitivity. So far, so good – and with my swollen feet from water retention, I do love to go around the house barefoot.

Obviously, if you don’t have diabetes this is not a problem, however neuropathy is still an item of concern, and may very well be the result of the way your body reacts to some of the medications you are on. I suggest talking this over with both your PCP and your Cardiologist. Possibly switching from one drug to another in the same class will resolve the issue for you. Hope you find a resolution.

I tried to get that site to connect it would not. I went to a general web search , I have comcast, put in burning feet. When it opened I went to page 2:RACGP burning feet syndrome, a clinical review, December.
Hope this works for you . I am not adept at this process but will keep mentoring under Jim and Burton . They are good teachers and funny guys.

I do not know any "official" connection -but I from time to time have a similar issue with both my feet and my hands.
Something more to look into.

I did some checking , my mind must have been somewhere else . I do however feel that there is a connection. When I first had my myectomy all those symptoms went away for awhile amd my atenolol was very low for me at 50 and then 75mgs. As time and chest pain have returned and the doseage has been gradually increased up to now 250 mgs , I have had a steady increase in the burning feet and neuropathic pain. My recent increase of 50 mgs has sent those problems even higher. My feeling is that the heart rate is lowered the peripheral return is then lower and there fore there is more peripheral neuropathy. When I cared for dialysis patients , many experienced severe burning pain. We attributed it( the medical people and the attending nephologists) to the circulation being pulled by the dialysis machine and the peripheral circulation then impaired. They would always have a little improvement that was tolerated when we returned all their blood to full circulation by taking them off the machine.

It is interesting to hear that others have these also. I sometimes get them on my lower legs. They are definitely a nerve problem, or type of neuropathy. I haven't had any lately, and I believe that when I was having them alot, I had just increased my beta blocker. I would be interested in hearing Pam's information on this subject. Mine fortunately seem to have subsided, but I would be interested in finding an explanation.

It sounds like neuopathy, are any of you diabetic? I am supposed to be having nerve conduction studies soon to check these horrible feelings out. From what i have been told it does not matter how in control the diabetis is , it can still cause severe neuropathy. I do not have the info present but i believe if i am not mistaken that some meds like beta blockers can compound this symptom. It often feels like your feet are in hot coals. I put my feet in ice at times for short periods.

Ladies,
Your feet are going through the changes – but what they are changing to is anybody’s guess.

To try to alleviate this problem you could try walking – or staying off them and keeping them elevated. Better still, walk on one of them and keep the other one elevated. That way you can find out which treatment is best for you. Just don’t do it until I get there with my camera.

If I can step out of character for a moment and be serious, there are a few things you could try. 1) Soak your feet and pumice off some of the calices – if you have any. 2) Work in some hand cream before going to bed. 3) Try shoe insets / sponge pads to ease your walking. 4) If all else fails – ask your doctor for goodness sakes.

I get hot flashes in my feet too, as well as in my upper back. I don't know what to do about it, I usually just fan my feet. Odd, I know. Imagine how it looks.

I experienced these "hot flashes" in the bottom of my feet prior to surgery and now since Ive been of the meds ( august 13th was my first full day off them) Ive started getting them again. Its not painful just noticable.
