    Dear Karla,

Are you on any medication? What kind of headaches? sides, top, all over? Sharp, pressure, or crushing?

    Sarah,

....sorry, didn't make it clear that I was asking about hubby....

He has been suffering from headaches for the past several months or so...I do not know exactly where the pain is, but he describes them as a 'sick' headache...oftentimes describing that he feels 'washed out' or nauseaus. (sorry, spelling) If one comes on, it usually lasts all day and over the counter medications don't give a lot of relief. I just find it peculiar that he gets them so often.

Was just wondering if this could be related to his HCM.......if anyone had similar experiences? Haven't seen any postings in relation to this subject and was just curious. Could just be stress...

We see the doctor tomorrow for his heart halter result of last week. They called the house and left a message to confirm appointment and also said that if he couldn't make it to call them as it was VERY important that they speak to him. He has never missed an appointment, so this makes me think that they have found something....

I'll keep you posted..thanks for your responses...the ONLY thing that is keeping me grounded these days!

    Karla

My 22 year old son died from HCM, November 21st, 2001.

He was an athlete in great physical except that he suffered from unexpainable headaches. Every year the college that he played for made sure that he had a complete physical exam by a doctor in order to play soccer for the school. The doctors could never explain why he had such terrible headaches. They told us that it could be stress also. I don't think so - as my son lead a carefree life. He was happy and healthy.

well, I didn't think that this cardiologist was on the ball, and now I think I can really say that!

I just spoke to the dr's office a short time ago - they said that the heart halter that my husband wore last week did NOT work (oh, by the way, they were having trouble with the NEW ones...) and FIRST she told us to come in tomorrow, get a prescription and go to the hospital to get one. Well, since the appointment was for the halter follow-up, I called back to ask if I could just pick up the 'script and my husband could go after work to the hospital....she THEN tells me, oh, he will still have to come in, because the dr. might NOT want to do the heart halter after all and might do something else. I then ask if it will be a 3-HOUR wait to see the dr. like last time, and she tells me that the dr's. appointment times are NOT set...so just come whenever!

At this rate, it will be over a month before we get ANY answers as to a complete diagnosis and treatment....

    so sign me...FRUSTRATED!

    Dear Karla,

Please call the office at 973-983-7429 after Wednesday to get the name of an HCM specialist. I've never heard of a doctor not having specific times and having to wait three hours (2 hours I've done, but 3 is insane).

As for the headaches, since they linked with nausea, I'm going to ask if hubby is drinking enough water? Make sure he is drinking 2 liters of water (not juice) every day and see what happens. Those are symptoms of dehydration that you are describing.

    Hi all,

Re headaches- this is something we hear a great deal ofat the HCMA. At the current time there is nothing I am aware of in the medical lit. that suggests a connection, but I think it is a matter of time before someone links them together.

When I know more you will too!

    Best wishes,

    Lisa Salberg

I am 64 years old and now have a pretty good feel for what causes what in my body and feel that HCM is a big contributor to headaches. Whenever I do anything physical too long and too hard...in other words...over exert...I get fatigue, achy muscles, headaches, nausea, and cold sweats. As my HCM has progressed, these symptoms occur on a regular basis with too much physical activity, indoors or out. I have learned to pace myself and rest frequently. Eventually, the relationship between HCM and headaches will be realized.
