    I have been having a hard time with arrythmias, not to mention the stress of not knowing if they are deadly or not. My card. told me to wear a holter for 24 hrs. I have worn the holter so many times and have never caught anything(the last one caught some "trivial ectopics", but those aren't the ones that bother me.
    I am going to get the holter on Mon or Tues but feel it is a waste of time.
    My card. didn't seem concerned about these beats(although he isn't the one getting them!!)

    The only machine available here is the holter monitor, and my cardiologist is 4 hours away(and doesn't want to see me for a year).

    I can't figure out why my Dr's are so unconcerned about this. I feel like a walking time bomb.

    Anyway, this was just my little vent for the day. Had a rough weekend.

    Hi Pam -

    I am so sorry that you are having a rough time. Are there holtors that are worn for longer periods of time? Would that even be something to talk to the cardiologist about? Is it possible to find a different cardiologist? I hope things pick up for you. Keep everybody posted.

      You could ask to wear the holter for 48 hours. Most labs will allow this as will OHIP. Some equipment is the latest, "state of the art", such as at the TGH. There is also an "event monitor" that can be worn for a week, month, or even longer.

        I would find another doctor....a doctor that does want to see you but once a year for this disease is the wrong doctor ..... things can change alot in a years time sometimes, i think it's time to find a new doctor where do you live? You need to find an HCM specialist girl, the holter monitors really didn't find anything just like Lisa said once if you want to seem well put on a holter monitor and all your symptoms will go away, i hopw you get answers soon

          I have to agree with Shirley. If you are having any kind of heart problem, he should see you at LEAST every 3-6 months. I would change cardiologists. You can wear an event monitor (loop monitor) which you wear for a month. You phone in a recording of anything out of the ordinary. Good luck

            Sorry to hear you are so stressed, over health issues. I noticed you live in Canada & I know from a Health Care standpoint- that's good news & bad news!
            I agree with the idea of wearing the Holter for at least 48 hours, but of course the problem could still be missed.
            There is the possibility that all the racing beats, skipped beats etc you feel, can be nondangerous. My last Holter experience (1 1/2 years ago) was for 48 hours. My Dr saw 40 episodes, but none that were "dangerous". Outside of that, I've been in Afib twice & V Tach once, but these felt differently! So perhaps your "episodes" are Safe & nothing to worry about! I'm sure you would prefer to hear those words from a Cardiologist-not Dr. Ronnie-but maybe I can reduce your stress & anxiety levels (tough on the Heart)
