  • Can't catch a break...just a rant

I fear I am beginning to sound like a broken record but [email protected]#$%. I just need to whine a bit.
If anyone remembers I saw a new cardiologist about 3ish weeks ago. He cancelled the day I arrived(I actually found out when I entered the office). Since it was a 5 hr trip we spent the night and saw him the next day. However, I came to find out that my GP had not sent any of my tests to him and he didn't have me scheduled for any, so it was a wasted trip.

Well we were supposed to go back today(Friday), but yesterday his nurse called and cancelled. I gave up on him and called my old cardiologist and made another appointment with him instead.

Ugggh, will I ever get a stress test...one little test thats all I want.

    Ok, pitty party is over.

        Re: Can't catch a break...just a rant

Thanks all. My app with my "old" cardiologist is for July 29(DH b-day )
He is in Winnipeg. I want to question him on why he didn't give me the stress test. It seems most others here have had one.

The new guy is in Thunder Bay, and I really did like him and he seemed 'up' on HCM since he studied under Dr. Wigle. However I can not see myself doctoring in such an unproffessional place.
He seems unreliable, and the whole office was a mess. The woman(I think, the Dr's wife) had to search high and low for the loop monitor...then the instructions...then the battieries. Not to mention when the nurse did the EKG, she didnt give me a gown...I was really uncomfortable.

Ok, I am getting away from myself here.

Thanks for the offer to help Lisa, but I am just having a hard time getting the ball rolling. I am confused about where to go. I had thought I was getting good treatment in Winnipeg, until I began learning more about HCM. And then that witch woman of a Dr I was seeing told me she didn't like him, which of course made me question him even more.

But for now, I am going to stick with my old cardio. in Winnipeg. I will see what he has to say about the stress test and seeing a specialist. I hope to come home wiser...and feeling better...high hopes, I know.

        Take care

        Pam

          Re: Can't catch a break...just a rant

          Hi Pam,

I'm sorry you've had such bad luck trying to get your appoinments squared away. Yikes! This aspect of HCM can be so frustrating, i know. Hang in there!

I would certainly question your cardio on why the stress test was not performed... but do bear in mind that there are some very good reasons NOT to conduct a stress test on an HCM'er. In some cases it may not considered safe to put the heart under additional stress, or the test may simply not yield any additional or useful data. For instance, if your gradient is already high at rest, or you're experiencing lots of symptoms without provocation... a stress test probably isn't going to tell you a whole lot more than you already know. These may or may not be the case in your situation... i'm just trying to suggest some possibilities.

As far as EKG's go, i wouldn't sweat the gown thing too much. I've had dozens of these, at some top-notch centers to boot, and have yet to be asked to put on a gown. Usually it's just 'hike up your shirt and pantlegs, and lower your socks'. I rarely even get asked to take my shoes off. LoL.

I hope you get some answers real soon! Please keep us posted on how things are going, and feel free to vent anytime you feel the need. We all do it from time to time

            Re: Can't catch a break...just a rant

Thanks Jum, I have had many EKG's and often I simply pull my shirt up but this woman wanted my shirt off too...with no gown...

You have definately had your fair share of battles so I feel guilty complaining about such trivial matters.

My gradient is 16mmHg resting and rises to 36 with stress. However, this was found using amyl nitrate which for the life of me I can't figure out why he used it. I never questioned it before but do now after learning so much more about HCM. I plan on asking him at my next visit why he chose the amyl nitrate instead of having me do the exercise stress test, and if one is better than the other.....Anyway, I know you don't have all the answers(I wish you did, it would make things much easier for me.)

I guess he knew what he was doing, I have to trust someone...

            Take care of yourself!!!

            Thanks
