I want to know what one should know about their own hearts being how we are all diferent?
I am so confused???
What is a gradient?
Is that different than obstruction?
What all types of question's show I ask my specialist?
I highly recommend reading the glossary on this web site and buying the HCMA membership that comes with the book about HCM. It is the most worthwhile money you will ever spend.
Gradient is a pressure measurement. Normal hearts have no gradient. Medication can sometimes reduce gradient, but it is usually caused by being obstructed, so you have to fix the obstruction to reduce gradient.
Obstruction is when the septum is thick at the top and blocks the mitral valve when it tries to open and close. Myectomy and alcohol septal ablations can remove obstruction.
It is hard to get a grip on HCM. It is slippery and not well understood. The other problem is that the heart is not well understood either so you have a lot of people who think they know things but don't and a rare few who do.
Just keep reading and asking questions and it will all come out in the wash.
