    [What is a-fib?]

    Hi again!

I hear about all these a-fib episodes, but I'm not too sure what they are. What does it mean and what are the symptoms? How would I know if I went into a-fib?

Just trying to learn every detail of HCM. Thanks for your input.

    Brie

Brie, Here's a great web site about a-fib. It also has a message board.

    Dear Brie,

Here is an excellent description of Atrial Fibrillation with a diagram:

    http://www.advocatehealth.com/health...n/atrialf.html

I am in and out of atrial fibrillation all the time. Some people with HCM get it and others don't. It just depends on how your particular HCM presents itself.

If you think you have afib, simply take your pulse. I find it easiest to do this by wrapping my left hand around my right wrist so my left finger tips rest on the inside of my right wrist and press down. If your heart is beating in a nice, steady, even beat, that is normal. If it beats in a random pattern, with pauses and double-beats and so on, that may be atrial fib or flutter if it goes on for long stretches, like a few hours, days, or more.

I feel it in my chest when my heart makes the switch, but this is not always the case for a lot of people.

    take care,

    Sarah

    Thanks guys!

I visited both web-sites and I now have a good understanding about Atrial Fibrillation.

    Take care,

    Brie
